About Us
Southbound is a 5 piece band that has been around since 1982. During it's infancy members came and went until the right mix of musicians were found. Some of the first gigs were at places such as Muldoon's of West Bridgewatwer, MA, a little biker joint where drummer Matt St. John joined brothers Tom & Gerry Leavens, Doug Brooks and Johnny Osgood. Peter St. John showed up to hear his brother's new band to find no soundman behind the board and after a few feedbacks and dirty looks from the band the first full lineup of Southbound was formed. This lineup continued for quite some time and wowed many fans with the 4 guitar South Shore Army. Eventually Matt came up front and John Osgood was replaced by ??? hmm I'll have to talk to Gerry to get the Southbound tree. Some of the other members included bringing soundman Peter St. John out front on guitar joined by brother Dan to replace Doug Brooks and Ron Tino came in on sound, then Doug came back, Matt left Seth came in on drums no wait Seth was before Ronnie...then Matt came back then Seth left and Justin Santos started drumming them Sloop left then Dan and Matt left again and it was down to a four piece band with no soundman then Ron came back and Matt again then Sloop came back on board then Pete left and Jeff Nevares came in but before that there was some guy named Mike...oh I forgot about Roscoe oh screw it! I can't remember everybody. Gerry help before my head explodes!
Anyway they played virtually every club in the South Shore area starting out with the small ones but as word spread the clubs and the crowds got larger and larger. At some point Southbound got the attention of National acts such as Molly Hatchet and The Outlaws who requested they be their warm up act. They played at such places as The Channel in Boston (no longer there) and other acts soon followed the request. Leslie West and Mountain, The Marshall Tucker Band, Foghat and even Stevie Ray Vaughn to name a few.
